La Nostra Storia
Dolce & Salato is a neighborhood Italian Cafe and Pasticceria which opened in the Summer of 2018. Our goal is to bring a slice of authentic Italian taste to Hoboken, New Jersey. The owners Maurizio Dolce, Michael Nirchio, and Brian Mazzei have always remained close to their Italian heritage and are now sharing this with the residents of Sinatra’s hometown.
Maurizio was born in Palermo, Sicily, and at the age of 12 immigrated to New Jersey with his family on the SS Michaelangelo. As he approached his new home on the ship, he saw Hoboken for the first time, not knowing it would one day be the location of his dream cafe. Maurizio’s love for Sicily has never faded and he traveled back to his beautiful hometown to propose to his wife, Anna Maria. They continue to travel and vacation in Sicily to experience the culture of Maurizio’s childhood.
Hoboken is ingrained in Dolce & Salato's roots. Michael was born at Saint Mary's Hospital in Hoboken to his parents who came from Molfetta, Italy. His wife, Giuseppina, whose parents are also from Molfetta, was born at the same Hoboken hospital, by the same doctor . . . talk about serendipity! You can find Giuseppina behind the counter, working her magic and serving up delicious coffees, pastries and food at Dolce & Salato.
The idea of Dolce & Salato began in 2012 when a new Italian cafe, Palazzone 1960, opened its doors in Wayne, New Jersey. Knowing what constitutes as quality Italian food, Maurizio, Michael, and Brian fell in love with what Giancarlo, the owner of Palazzone 1960, was serving and they started to think, "this type of cafe would be perfect in Hoboken."
This dream became a reality in 2017 when Michael and Brian’s development and contracting company built a mixed-use project at 1101 Grand Street in Hoboken. In need of a retail tenant, the team jumped at the opportunity to build their own cafe in the town where everything started.
Assisting the team is Frank Krushinski, an executive chef and restaurant consultant who has owned and operated restaurants in Hoboken, New York City, and Brooklyn.
Dolce & Salato will be serving house-made salads, sandwiches, coffee, and authentic Italian pastries made by Palazzone 1960. Our goal is to bring the flavor of Molfetta and Palermo to Hoboken. Dolce and Salato will be open for breakfast and lunch and will be selling products directly from Italy for customers to take home and enjoy with their families.
Please come and enjoy our fresh menu selections and variety of imported pastas, sauces, olive oils, balsamic vinegars and more. We invite you, your friends, your family, and your co-workers to step inside your new favorite Italian paradiso in Hoboken.
